Man United Extend Harry Maguire Contract — Bold Vote of Confidence
Manchester, April 7 — Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has signed a one-year contract extension with the club, with an option to extend for a further 12 months, the club announced on Tuesday. The 33-year-old centre-back had been due to be out of contract at the end of the season, and the deal secures his stay at Old Trafford for at least another year.
Director of football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire’s influence on the squad, saying: “Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.” The club highlighted the leadership and experience Maguire brings to a team blending youth with established players.
Maguire joined Manchester United from Leicester City in 2019 for $97 million, a then world-record fee for a defender. During his time at the club he has won both the FA Cup and the League Cup and has made 266 appearances for United, cementing his place among the club’s senior figures.
After a period in 2023 when he looked set to leave following a loss of place under former manager Erik ten Hag, Maguire has since re-established himself as a key player and earned a recall to the England squad ahead of the World Cup. Reflecting on the extension, Maguire said: “Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day. I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.” (AP)
