Major Seizure: Rs 1.59 Crore Drugs Destroyed in Mahasamund
Authorities in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district confirmed on Sunday, March 29, 2026, that illicit narcotics worth Rs 1,59,84,520 were destroyed on the night of Saturday, March 28, as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug-related offences. The disposal, officials said, followed prescribed government norms and legal procedures and was supervised by the District-Level Drugs Disposal Committee.
The consignment destroyed included a range of banned substances seized in multiple cases across the district: 720 grams of brown sugar, 7 grams of heroin, 2,576 bottles of syrup, 11,367 capsules, 62,449 tablets, and 4,123 injection ampoules. The narcotics had been recovered in 35 separate cases registered at various police stations and outposts in Mahasamund district.
A thorough physical verification of the seized items was conducted in the presence of the District-Level Drugs Disposal Committee before the destruction. The actual burning and disposal took place at the Bio-Medical Waste Plant (SMS) in Siltara, Raipur, officials said, ensuring waste handling met regulatory standards.
The committee that oversaw the exercise was chaired by the Superintendent of Police, Mahasamund, with the Additional Superintendent of Police and the District Excise Officer among its members. Officials emphasized that such disposals are regular enforcement measures to prevent seized narcotics from re-entering circulation.
Geographically, the 35 cases included one registered at Singhora police station, four at Saraipali, two at Baloda, one at Patewa, one at Tumgaon, 13 at Mahasamund, one at Bagbahara, two at Komakhan, and 10 at Basna. The cases span several years, reflecting sustained enforcement: one from 2017, two from 2020, three from 2021, seven from 2022, eight from 2023, three from 2024, and 11 from 2025.
Officials said the destruction underlines the administration’s continued commitment to tackling drug-related crime in the region and to ensuring seized substances are permanently removed from circulation. — IANS
