Pala Accuses P N Syiem of Power-Hungry Ambition — Shocking Claim
Shillong, March 21 — Meghalaya Congress president Vincent H. Pala said on Friday that P.N. Syiem may have resigned from the Congress to “enjoy power” and is expected to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) soon. Pala made the remarks in Shillong as he responded to recent shifts among local politicians and parties in the district council.
Pala recalled that Syiem, along with Ronnie V. Lyngdoh and Charles Marngar, had played key roles in arranging cooperation between the Congress and the National People’s Party (NPP) in the District Council. He admitted he was not pleased with that move at the time and said the Congress later compelled them to withdraw from the NPP-led Executive Committee after reassessing the situation.
“When we lost the last MDC elections, he (Syiem) was upset. He probably thought it would not be wise for him to be with Congress, and he probably wanted to enjoy power,” Pala said, stressing that ideological differences prevent the Congress from aligning with the BJP.
Pala added that Syiem and a few members from the NPP and the United Democratic Party (UDP) are likely to join the BJP soon. He said the Congress will monitor developments and respond as the political realignments unfold.
