VP Radhakrishnan Urges Youth to Adapt to Change at NU Convocation
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Friday urged the youth of Nagaland to embrace change and prepare for opportunities in an increasingly globalised world while addressing the 8th convocation of Nagaland University at its Lumami campus in Zunheboto district. He called on graduates to view the convocation as the start of a new journey and to ready themselves for national and international challenges.
Delivering the convocation address as chief guest, Radhakrishnan told students that “a convocation marks the beginning of a new journey rather than the end of their academic pursuits.” He urged them to set clear goals, move forward with determination and avoid measuring themselves against others, noting that every individual has unique strengths.
Emphasising national participation, the Vice‑President encouraged Nagaland’s youth to join national services and appear in larger numbers for competitive examinations, particularly the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) tests, so they can contribute to public life and nation‑building.
Radhakrishnan highlighted India’s diversity and said the country is held together by shared ideals and values, with unity remaining its greatest strength. He said the vision of a Viksit Nagaland would be important to achieving the broader goal of a Viksit Bharat and stressed that inclusive development, respect for differences within a democratic framework, and the maintenance of peace are essential for sustained progress.
Speaking of his visit to the state, he expressed happiness at visiting Nagaland for the first time and praised its rich culture and the resilience of its people, describing the state as a place where nature, culture and courage blend in remarkable harmony.
Referring to the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) agreement, Radhakrishnan said peace, dialogue and mutual respect are necessary for the overall development and stability of the region.
He lauded Nagaland University for expanding higher education and research across the Northeast, and highlighted institutional achievements including the establishment of a cancer research laboratory and initiatives to preserve and document indigenous Naga languages and customary laws-efforts he described as vital to safeguarding the region’s cultural heritage.
During the convocation, the Vice‑President conferred degrees and presented gold medals to meritorious students. A total of 107 PhD scholars, 825 postgraduate students, 846 graduates from professional programmes and 5,106 undergraduate students received their degrees, and 54 gold medals were awarded across various disciplines.
