Major Assam Reshuffle: 15 Senior Officers Ahead of Assembly Polls
Guwahati, March 5: Ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, the state government on Wednesday ordered a major bureaucratic reshuffle, transferring 15 senior IAS and state service officers across multiple districts and departments, an order issued by Personnel Department Secretary Monita Borgohain said. The moves come as the state prepares for polls across 126 constituencies expected in April this year following the 2023 delimitation exercise.
The order names Partha Pratim Majumdar, until now Home and Political Commissioner & Secretary, as the new District Commissioner (DC) of Bajali. Mridul Kumar Das, the outgoing DC of Bajali, has been posted as Additional Secretary to the Home & Political and Women & Child Development departments, and will serve as State Coordinator of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and CEO of the e-Foreigners Tribunal Project.
Narendra Kumar Shah, previously Director of Employment & Craftsmen Training, has been transferred to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat as its Secretary. Aditya Vikram Yadav, who held the Secretariat post, has been posted as DC of Lakhimpur. Pronab Jit Kakoty, the outgoing Lakhimpur DC, moves to the Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship Department as Additional Secretary and will also take charge as Director of Employment & Craftsmen Training.
Preeti Kumari, Joint Secretary in the General Administration Department, has been appointed DC of West Karbi Anglong, replacing Saranga Pani Sarma. Sarma has been transferred to serve as Secretary in the Transport Department and as State Project Director of the Assam Inland Water Transport Development Society.
Ayushi Jain, Joint Secretary in the Finance Department, has been posted as DC of Darrang. Pubali Gohain will take over as DC in Golaghat, while the present Golaghat DC, Parag Kumar Kakaty, has been named Additional Secretary in the Revenue & Disaster Management Department and Additional CEO of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
Meenakshi Das Nath, relieved of her Additional CEO charge at ASDMA, will continue as Secretary of Revenue & Disaster Management and as Project Director of the Assam Integrated River Basin Management Project. Gautam Das, DC of Baksa, has been posted as Secretary in the Panchayat & Rural Development Department; his replacement in the district is Dhiraj Saud, formerly Secretary of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
Jatin Bora, DC of Chirang, has been transferred to the General Administration Department as Secretary, and BTC Secretary Gakul Chandra Brahma will assume the post of Chirang DC. The reshuffle reflects administrative repositioning ahead of the elections and across departments handling disaster management, development and transport. PTI
