অসমৰ বিরোধী ঐক্যত ফাট মেলাৰ আশঙ্কা: কেনেকুৱা প্ৰভাৱ?
As Assam prepares for a likely assembly election in April, tensions have surfaced within the opposition camp after the Indian National Congress unilaterally released its first list of candidates, prompting sharp criticism from Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi. Gogoi described Congress’s move as “unfortunate” and “unconstitutional,” raising fresh doubts about the stability of an anti-BJP alliance at a sensitive pre-election moment.
Gogoi sharply rebuked the Congress decision, saying: “Unfortunate! While alliance talks were ongoing, Congress unilaterally published a candidate list and displayed its unconstitutional character. I am pained by this.” His remarks signal a clear deterioration in relations between Raijor Dal and the Congress and suggest a breach of trust in ongoing seat-sharing negotiations.
Political analysts warn that such public disagreements could complicate efforts to build a broad, united front against the BJP. With seat allocation talks still under way, the dispute over the candidate list has increased the risk that rival parties will enter the campaign with weaker coordination and conflicting strategies.
The Election Commission has not yet announced formal polling dates, though an April election remains a strong possibility. Observers say the timing of the controversy — immediately before the likely election schedule — heightens its political significance and could affect voter perceptions of opposition unity.
In response, Congress officials stated that talks with Raijor Dal were continuing but acknowledged that no formal alliance or seat-sharing agreement had been finalized. The party also confirmed that it has secured an alliance with the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), indicating that regional partnerships remain a key part of Congress’s election strategy even as negotiations with other partners remain unresolved.
