Security forces and Manipur Police jointly arrested three suspected insurgents and seized a pistol, ammunition, mobile phones and a stolen scooter in separate operations on Sunday, March 1, 2026, officials said in a report on Monday, March 2, 2026. The actions came ahead of the Yaoshang (Holi) festival, which begins Tuesday, March 3, and runs through March 7, 2026.
In the first operation, police detained 29-year-old Khaidem Narendra Singh, also known as Angou or Maikeingakpa, identified as an active cadre of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Party of Kangleipak Progressive (PREPAK-Pro). He was arrested at his residence-cum-hideout in Wangoi Khaidem Leikai in Imphal West under Wangoi Police Station. Authorities recovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine, four rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a mobile phone with a SIM card from his possession. (“Proscribed” denotes an organisation banned as unlawful.)
Following his interrogation, a second PREPAK-Pro cadre, 21-year-old Khundrakpam Anilkumar Singh, alias Manganglakpa of Sawombung Thongkhong, was apprehended at Phaknung Awang Leikai within the Lamlai Police Station area in Imphal East; police seized a mobile phone from him.
A third operation in Thoubal district led to the arrest of 43-year-old Ibungomacha Laishram, also known as Rocky or Ibomcha, an active cadre of the proscribed Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL). Laishram, a resident of Gaili village in Peren, Nagaland, reportedly living at Singjamei Yumnam Leikai in Imphal West, was detained in the Yairipok Lamkhai area and found with a mobile phone and SIM card.
Separately, a Honda Activa scooter reported stolen from the Mayang Imphal area on February 11, 2026, was recovered in the Patsoi Police Station jurisdiction in Imphal West. Police said the arrested individuals and all recovered items have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal proceedings.
