Guv Demands Transparency; CM Hails Ethics as Democracy’s Pillars
Agartala, 27 February 2026 — Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu inaugurated a seminar and workshop at Pragna Bhavan today, saying the Constitution of India “is not merely a legal document but a guiding force that ensures justice, equality, and freedom for every citizen.” The event, titled “Responsibilities and Accountability of Public Representatives Towards People of All Sections of Society,” brought together elected officials and stakeholders to discuss how representatives can better serve diverse communities across the state.
The Governor urged public representatives to prioritise service and ensure that constitutional rights reach every citizen, describing the workshop’s theme as a fundamental pillar of a functioning democracy. He stressed the need to empower farmers, tribal communities, women and youth, and reminded officeholders that their duty extends beyond individual constituencies to the state as a whole. “Ensuring that the benefits of development reach the last person in society is a primary obligation,” he said.
Highlighting social achievements, the Governor expressed pride that Tripura has been declared a fully literate state and called on stakeholders to build a robust ecosystem for quality education. He pointed to women’s empowerment initiatives as yielding tangible results, noting the rise of many “Lakhpati Didis” and more than one lakh women entrepreneurs in the state.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, who also addressed the gathering, said a true public representative must safeguard citizens’ dignity, maintain decorum in personal conduct, stand by people in distress and ensure full accountability in their work. “Accountability is one of the core pillars of democracy,” he said, calling the initiative a historic step toward a more transparent, strong and people-centric democracy.
Dr Saha added that ethical conduct, transparency and accountability strengthen democratic institutions and urged representatives to engage with citizens year-round rather than only during elections. He also highlighted the role of technology under the Digital India initiative, saying digital tools offer wide opportunities to maintain direct communication with the public and to share information about development projects and welfare schemes online.
