Fed-Up Naga Youths: Political Stagnancy Fuels Disillusion
A loosely organised collective of young Nagas calling itself “Fed‑up” urged the Government of India on February 12 in Dimapur to immediately implement two long‑pending political accords — the Framework Agreement (FA) and the Agreed Position (AP) — saying prolonged delays have left the state’s youth facing economic stagnation and a bleak future. Speaking at a press briefing at Hotel Layover, 3rd Mile, members said the group does not represent any single organisation but comprises “like‑minded youths” demanding action to translate signed agreements into reality.
“We are not accusing, we are not attacking any individuals or groups or organisations. But we are here to talk about a system that has transformed the abnormal to normal. And it is us, the youth, which are paying the price,” said member Ninoto Khekiye Chishi. Kuhoto I Awomi added the main purpose of the collective is to press the Government of India “to immediately implement the signed agreements,” and stressed their criticism is aimed at systemic delays rather than the intent of community elders or leaders.
The group highlighted what it described as a decade of delay — “10 years since the Framework Agreement and eight years since the Agreed Position” — and blamed those delays for fostering illegal monopolies and market syndicates. Chishi said these unlawful networks now control sectors including essential commodity trade and construction materials, creating a culture where “connections” matter more than merit or hard work. He warned that the resulting “psychological damage” and a persistent “gun culture” have normalised intimidation as power among young people.
Aga Rengma said the collective speaks for a “silent majority” of youths who feel excluded from the political process and have borne the brunt of unemployment and economic decline while negotiations stagnate. “Whatever has been agreed with the Naga people through the NSCN (IM) and Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs); since it has been agreed upon and signed already, implement it at the earliest. That is our youth’s demand,” he said.
Fed‑up described itself as committed to non‑violence and inclusive of Naga youths both inside Nagaland and across the border. The collective has launched a website, fedupnagas.com, and social media channels to build support and plans a peaceful, democratic rally in future to press for implementation. Members also called on parents and elders to back their cause, citing the large number of college‑educated youths remaining unemployed for lack of industry and political stability.
Challenging the younger generation to move beyond online protest, the group urged youths to turn digital outrage into organised, in‑person collective action. While acknowledging the work of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation and other tribal bodies, Fed‑up insisted that youth must now raise their own voice to secure a viable future.
