Tottenham Sacks Thomas Frank After Shocking Premier League Slump
Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after just under eight months in charge, the club said following a 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle on Tuesday. Spurs sit 16th in the Premier League and only five points above the relegation zone amid a woeful run of form: they have gone eight league games without a win — their longest winless streak since October 2008 — and have managed just two victories in their last 17 league matches, collecting only 12 points in that period.
“The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today. Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together,” Spurs said in a statement.
“However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary. Throughout his time at the Club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the Club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future,” the club added.
The decision comes despite better showings in Europe: Spurs’ Champions League form had been described as positive, with a fourth-place finish in the league phase securing automatic passage to the last 16.
Frank had been appointed in June 2025 on a contract running until 2028, succeeding Ange Postecoglou, who had led the club to a Europa League triumph that ended a 17-year trophy drought. The Dane brought extensive experience in English football, having joined Brentford in 2016 and guiding them from the Championship to an established Premier League side. During his time at Brentford he was credited with transforming the club and consistently outperforming expectations over an extended period.
The club offered thanks for Frank’s efforts and wished him well for the future. (IANS)
