Shivam Mishra, a key figure in the recent Lamborghini accident in Kanpur, has been granted bail by the District Court on a personal bond of ₹20,000. His legal representative, Naresh Chandra Tripathi, alleges that the police acted under “government pressure” in wrongly arresting Mishra. Following the court’s decision, his lawyer stated, “The Court has refused the remand. He is being released now, on an undertaking of ₹20,000 and a personal bond of ₹20,000. The police had wrongly arrested him.”
The court’s decision comes after the police’s request for remand was denied. Mishra’s lawyer, Mrityunjay Kumar, confirmed this, adding, “On a personal bond of ₹20,000, Shivam Mishra’s remand plea was rejected by the Court.”
Mishra, son of noted tobacco businessman KK Mishra, was apprehended after his driver, Mohan, recanted his earlier denial of Mishra’s involvement in the accident. The incident, which occurred on February 8, left six individuals injured and initially involved the police listing an “unknown driver” in their FIR. However, subsequent investigations, supported by CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, led to Mishra being identified as the driver based on the evidence presented.
On the day of the incident, the luxury Lamborghini struck an autorickshaw and a motorcycle, before crashing into a pole. Eyewitnesses noted that the vehicle was traveling at high speed when the accident took place. The driver, Mohan, later admitted to being behind the wheel but claimed that Mishra was beside him and suffered a seizure, which caused him to collapse onto Mohan during the drive.
“…Yes. He (Shivam Mishra) had a seizure. Suddenly, his arms and legs started shaking, and he fell on me,” Mohan stated, emphasizing his presence at the scene of the crash. The driver proceeded to submit an affidavit taking full responsibility for the accident.
Earlier today, Mishra’s lawyer, Narendra Kumar Yadav, reiterated claims of wrongful arrest, asserting that his client was not driving the vehicle during the incident. “He (Shivam Mishra) has been wrongly arrested by the police. He was not driving the car,” Yadav told ANI, seeking to clarify the circumstances that led to the arrest.
