Unyielding Security Measures & Cutting-Edge Webcasting: Telangana’s 2026 Municipal Elections Under Tight Border Checks!
The Telangana Police have implemented comprehensive security measures ahead of the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections scheduled for February 11, 2026, covering seven municipal corporations and 116 municipalities. During a press conference on February 10, 2026, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy announced that extensive arrangements were in place for 8,203 polling stations. Among these, 1,302 have been classified as hyper-sensitive, 1,926 as sensitive, and 4,975 as normal.
To facilitate the smooth conduct of the elections, over 3,000 additional personnel from various departments-including the Forest, Excise, CID, and Legal Metrology-have been deployed. Since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect on January 27, 2026, all police commissionerates and districts, except for Hyderabad, have been active in ensuring compliance. Preventative measures taken ahead of the elections include the deposit of 1,183 licensed firearms, the issuance of good-behavior bonds for 4,318 individuals, and the execution or recall of 398 non-bailable warrants.
In an effort to bolster security, the police have intensified border surveillance, establishing 20 interstate border checkpoints along Telangana’s borders with four neighboring states. Checkpoints are operational at five locations along the Maharashtra border, five along the Karnataka border, eight along the Andhra Pradesh border, and two along the Chhattisgarh border. Additionally, 55 inter-district and intra-district border checkpoints are set up, augmented by 181 Flying Squads and 167 Static Surveillance Teams actively monitoring the regions.
Significant enforcement actions have led to substantial seizures valued at ₹3.09 crore across 988 FIRs. This figure includes cash seizures amounting to ₹1.29 crore from four cases, liquor valued at ₹1.21 crore from 756 cases, drugs worth ₹15.7 lakh from 18 cases, freebies valued at ₹13 lakh from 13 instances, and precious metals exceeding ₹28.69 lakh. Police have registered 142 cases for violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
As the silent period commenced at 5 p.m. on February 9, police have heightened their patrolling and presence, particularly in vulnerable areas. Authorities have ensured 100% webcasting inside polling stations, with enhanced coverage for hyper-sensitive booths.
A dedicated command and control center has been established at the Telangana Police Headquarters in Lakdikapool, showcasing a large video wall streaming live footage from cameras across the state. Senior officials are continuously monitoring these feeds to facilitate rapid responses to any incidents.
In concluding remarks, the Telangana police encouraged voters to exercise their democratic rights freely and fearlessly on polling day. With robust security protocols in place, the authorities are committed to ensuring a safe and orderly election process for all participants.
