Chandmari Flyover Lane Restrictions: What You Need to Know for the Next 30 Days
Commuters in Guwahati should prepare for significant traffic disruptions as authorities have announced a 30-day closure of the Chandmari flyover. This closure is necessary for construction work aimed at linking the flyover with the upcoming GNB flyover. Residents and those who regularly travel this route are advised to seek alternative paths to minimize congestion and delays during this period.
A traffic advisory released on Saturday specified that vehicular movement on the Chandmari flyover will be managed through alternate lane closures. Each lane will be closed for 15 days, contributing to a total construction timeline of 30 days. This strategy is designed to ensure safe construction while permitting a limited flow of traffic.
To facilitate smoother movement, traffic police have outlined alternative routes based on the direction of travel. For vehicles coming from the Zoo Road area, drivers can head to Rajgarh Road via Apurba Sinha Path or directly access Rajgarh Road. From Rajgarh Road, the route continues along South Sarania Road, through GS Road and Dr. B Baruah Road, before reaching GNB Road.
For those traveling from the Chandmari side, the advised route leads towards Bamunimaidam via MRD Road. Upon reaching MRD Road, commuters have the option to either proceed to Hatigarh Chariali through Railway Colony Road or take the Noonmati–Mathgharia route.
In an effort to avoid traffic bottlenecks at Chandmari, city buses have been given strict operational guidelines. Bus operators are instructed to maintain discipline within their lanes, operate solely in the leftmost lane, and refrain from overtaking other vehicles.
The traffic advisory reiterated a resolution from an October meeting of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Board, mandating that city buses must drive in the leftmost lane throughout their routes. It was further clarified that, under current permit regulations, diesel-fueled city buses are not allowed to overtake on the left or to pass other buses on the same path.
Traffic authorities have urged commuters to plan their travels ahead of time, adhere to the proposed diversions, and cooperate with enforcement personnel to ensure a smoother traffic experience during this construction phase.
