Shocking Arrest: Woman with Fake Diplomatic Plates Caught in Delhi
A 45-year-old woman from Guwahati has been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch for allegedly using forged diplomatic number plates on her Toyota Innova and accessing embassies and high-security areas, deemed crucial for national security, according to police reports. The arrest occurred ahead of Republic Day celebrations in the Capital.
The police act followed specific intelligence from the Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Cell (AEKC), which indicated that the woman had been frequently visiting various embassies and sensitive diplomatic zones. Authorities discovered the vehicle sporting forged diplomatic registration plates, labeled “144 CD 54.”
The SUV was traced to B Block in Vasant Vihar, prompting police to set a trap. At around 3:10 PM, the woman allegedly approached her car and attempted to drive away. When questioned about ownership documents, she claimed the vehicle belonged to a foreign embassy but could not provide any documentation. During a vehicle search, police found another forged plate resembling those used by foreign missions.
During interrogation, the woman initially presented herself as a representative of a foreign embassy but failed to identify the mission or produce any legitimate documents. She claimed to have purchased the Innova from a foreign embassy in November 2024, but later, the embassy filed a complaint with the Chanakyapuri police station because the vehicle was not transferred to her name. To evade police scrutiny, she allegedly created forged embassy-style number plates, according to DCP (Crime Branch) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
An investigation revealed that her husband works as a regional transport officer in the Assam Transport Department, and her father-in-law is also a government employee. According to an officer, the woman took commissions to connect foreign traders with Indian suppliers, necessitating contacts in embassies. To facilitate this, she allegedly forged the number plates.
The woman, who is a graduate, claimed to have served as an all-India secretary for a political party for four years. She also stated that she worked as a consultant for a foreign embassy between 2023 and 2024, earning about Rs 1.5 lakh per month. Additionally, she claimed to have served as a sports guide for the University of Science and Technology in Meghalaya and is currently providing consultancy to foreign students, particularly from Africa, wishing to enroll at the university.
