Installation work on the natural gas pipeline linking Tripura and Mizoram is making significant progress, with officials reporting that approximately 45 percent of the project is complete as of January 15. The 119.5-kilometer pipeline is being constructed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGCL) under the North East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid and is projected to be finished by December 2027. The pipeline will start from the Panisagar receiving terminal in Tripura, passing through Kanhmun, Zawlnuam, Kawrthah, Tuidam, and Darlak before reaching Mamit in Mizoram. It will then extend towards Lengte and conclude at the planned Sihhmui receiving terminal, situated about 21 kilometers from Aizawl.
Upon its completion, Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited (TNGCL) will provide household gas connections to residents in Aizawl. Mizoram’s Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, B Lalchhanzova, visited Agartala on Wednesday to assess the project’s progress. During his visit, he met with officials from TNGCL and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), and also inspected a compressed natural gas (CNG) station in the city.
The minister later toured a residential area in Agartala where roughly 330 households have already been connected to piped natural gas, allowing him to witness firsthand the benefits of the service. While addressing TNGCL officials, Lalchhanzova emphasized that the completion of the pipeline would be a landmark achievement for Mizoram, ensuring residents have access to a reliable and affordable gas supply. He noted that the availability of natural gas would extend beyond residential use to benefit commercial, industrial, and transportation sectors as well.
The minister expressed confidence that the project would create employment opportunities and facilitate the growth of major industries within the state. He urged both IGCL and TNGCL to remain vigilant and adhere to project timelines to ensure its timely completion.
