President Honors Sikkim Farmer at Exclusive ‘At Home’ Reception
GANGTOK: The State BJP has voiced strong objections against the Sikkim Public Service Commission (SPSC) for failing to comply with the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005. The party claims that by withholding data related to the Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment results, the commission has undermined transparency and fueled public skepticism regarding the integrity of the selection process, stated BJP spokesperson Sangay Gyatso Bhutia on Tuesday.
Following the announcement of the Sub-Inspector results on November 26, 2025, widespread public outcry ensued in Sikkim. Aspirants and civil society accused the SPSC of nepotism, favoritism, and serious misconduct.
In an attempt to ensure accountability within this constitutional body, the BJP submitted an RTI application on November 28, 2025, asking for detailed information about the examination and evaluation process. The BJP aimed to offer the SPSC a chance to clarify its standing and demonstrate transparency to the people of Sikkim, according to Bhutia.
On December 16, 2025, the BJP received a reply from the State Public Information Officer (SPIO). However, rather than providing the requested information, the commission referenced certain sections of the SPSC Amendment Rule 2017 to decline the request.
Bhutia criticized the SPSC for “hiding behind legal technicalities” to escape accountability, arguing that denying information crucial for the futures of thousands of Sikkimese youth undermines the public interest. He remarked, “When a constitutional body uses loopholes to deny society the right to facts, it isn’t protecting the law; it is protecting a system that many believe is compromised.”
Dissatisfied with what the BJP labeled a “misleading and evasive” response, the party has formally requested an Appellate Hearing with the SPSC. Bhutia expressed, “The party urges the Appellate Authority to compel the SPIO to release all necessary information promptly, as the futures of thousands of aspirants are at stake. We are committed to the youth of Sikkim and will continue to advocate for our collective future.”
