Urgent: 2.89 Crore Voters Missing from Uttar Pradesh Draft Electoral Roll
The Election Commission has unveiled the draft voter list for Uttar Pradesh following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). During a press conference in Lucknow, state electoral officer Navdeep Rinva announced that the draft includes names of 12 crore 55 lakh 56 thousand 25 voters. He reported that 81.30 percent of the existing voters submitted their forms to register for the new list, which originally contained 15 crore 44 lakh 30 thousand 92 names.
However, the new draft voter list reveals that 2.89 crore names, accounting for 18.70 percent of the existing list, are missing. During the revision, it was noted that 46.23 lakh voters, or 2.99 percent, were identified as deceased. Additionally, the names of 2.17 crore voters, equating to 14.04 percent, were not found by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the process. There were also 25.47 lakh voters whose names appeared in multiple locations within the voter list, representing 1.65 percent of the total.
Rinva further stated that the period for claims and objections will be open from January 6 to February 6, 2026. The decision regarding these claims will be made from January 6 to February 27, 2026, during the notice phase. The final electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh will be published on March 6, 2026, after which citizens will have an additional month to submit any claims or objections.
