Himachal CM Vows Swift Justice for Assaulted College Student
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his deep sorrow on Sunday over the tragic death of a young girl student from the Government Degree College in Dharamsala. To show his support for the grieving family, the Chief Minister reached out to the girl’s parents in a telephone call, offering his heartfelt condolences during this profoundly difficult time.
In the conversation, which was facilitated by Yadvinder Goma, the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Sukhu highlighted the state’s commitment to combating harassment and injustice. He assured the bereaved family that they would receive all possible assistance from the government.
An FIR has been filed against Associate Professor Ashok Kumar and three female students connected to the case. In an initial step to ensure a fair investigation, the Associate Professor has been suspended pending the inquiry and subsequent disciplinary action according to established conduct rules.
Sukhu reiterated the government’s dedication to a transparent and thorough investigation, promising that they would ensure accountability for those responsible under the law. Just a day prior, the government had ordered the immediate suspension of the Assistant Professor while the departmental investigation takes place.
The FIR against Kumar incorporates relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009, concerning the three female students involved in relation to the girl’s death. According to the suspension orders, Ashok Kumar will be based at the Directorate of Higher Education in Shimla during this period and is prohibited from leaving the headquarters without prior approval from higher authorities.
