Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps Unveils 10 kW Solar Power Plant in R
The Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps has inaugurated a 10 kW solar power plant in Muguthang village, situated at around 15,000 feet near the India-China border in North Sikkim. This initiative supports the Government of India’s Vibrant Villages Programme, aimed at enhancing living conditions in remote border areas.
According to an official press release, the solar plant now provides reliable electricity to every household in Muguthang, which will allow residents to stay year-round, improve safety after dark, enhance connectivity, and reduce the necessity for seasonal migrations during harsh winters.
Muguthang is a small, remote border village home to approximately 32 residents from ten families, who previously struggled with an unreliable power supply. Villagers depended on personal solar panels and were often forced to migrate for five to six months each year, leaving their homes and livestock behind.
In response to these challenges, the Trishakti Corps worked closely with the local community to implement a sustainable energy solution that brought basic electrification to the village. This project has notably improved the living conditions and overall well-being of its inhabitants.
An Indian Army officer emphasized the importance of essential services in remote border areas, stating, “Providing essential facilities in remote border areas is vital for national resilience. This solar power project will help the people of Muguthang live safely and with dignity throughout the year.”
The initiative showcases the Indian Army’s ongoing commitment, under the Trishakti Corps, to promote inclusive development, strengthen civil-military bonds, and support resilient border communities.
