Shocking Osman Hadi Murder: Meet the Two Suspects Who Fled to India!
The murder suspects in the assassination of Osman Hadi have allegedly fled to India’s Meghalaya after crossing the Haluaghat border from Bangladesh, according to S N Md Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh, named as suspects, are said to have been initially met by a local individual known as Purti, who facilitated their transit to Tura town via a taxi driver named Sami. However, no details were provided regarding the timing of their escape to India.
The claims surrounding Hadi’s murder have stirred controversy, particularly among his supporters, who suspect that one of the primary accused has connections to the Awami League, the ruling party led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This political dimension adds a layer of complexity to the investigation, as Hadi was a prominent figure during last year’s student-led uprising in Bangladesh, which resulted in Hasina’s ousting.
Responses from Indian authorities have swiftly refuted these allegations, as Meghalaya police and the Border Security Force (BSF) reported no formal communication from their Bangladeshi counterparts. A senior police official indicated that none of the suspects mentioned in the DMP report had been traced or apprehended within Garo Hills, reinforcing that the identities of Purti and Sami are unverified in Meghalaya. BSF’s IG OP Upadhayay described the claims as baseless, affirming that there was no evidence supporting the alleged border crossing.
Osman Hadi, known for his radical views and criticisms of India, was born in 1994 in Nalchity Upazila of Jhalokhati district. He gained notoriety during the protests last year that challenged the government, serving as a senior leader of the Inqilab Moncho movement. As reported by ANI, Hadi had ambitions of running for the Dhaka-8 constituency as an independent candidate in the forthcoming elections. Tragically, he succumbed to injuries on December 18 after being shot in the head during an election campaign in Dhaka.
As tensions escalate between Bangladesh and India, both nations have suspended visa services in several cities, including Delhi, while exchanging accusations over the security of their diplomatic missions. Each country has summoned the other’s high commissioner to formally address these concerns. Riva Ganguly Das, a former Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, expressed hope that the situation would not deteriorate, emphasizing the unpredictable future of Bangladesh amidst its current instability.
Amid widespread criticism of the interim government for its perceived lack of authority and legitimacy, many believe an elected administration would be more capable of addressing both domestic and international challenges. With national elections set for February 12, the stakes are high for all parties involved as they navigate these turbulent waters.
