Kynjaimon Amse, Promising Lawyer and Activist, Dies in Road Accident
Kynjaimon Amse, a 30-year-old lawyer and social activist from Meghalaya, tragically passed away in a road accident on the night of August 22 in Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills District.
Amse, a graduate of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) in Patiala, Punjab, also held an alumni status with North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU). He was a former member of the NEHU Students’ Union. His educational background included schooling at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School in Umkiang and completing higher secondary studies at St. Edmund’s College in Shillong.
Amse was widely recognized for his outspokenness and dedication to social causes. Recently, he had filed a complaint against a controversial cement plant project in Wahiajer Village, demanding the revocation of its No Objection Certificate, and threatened legal action if his demands were not met.
His legal career had a distinct focus on advocating for underserved communities. He took on cases to improve infrastructure in remote villages along the Indo-Bangladesh border and was vocal about the poor road conditions on National Highway 6.
In recognition of his potential and commitment, Amse was empanelled by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority as a Legal Aid Counsel in 2023. This role underscored his dedication to providing legal assistance to those in need.
Kynjaimon Amse’s untimely death is a significant loss for the communities he served and for the field of legal advocacy in Meghalaya. His promising career, marked by an unwavering commitment to public service, was cut short too soon.
