Tragic Wild Animal Attacks in Assam: Farmer Killed, Children Injured
A night of terror struck communities in Assam’s Boko as two separate wild animal attacks resulted in one farmer’s death and six children suffering serious injuries, raising alarm over the ongoing issue of human–wildlife conflict in the region.
The first incident occurred around midnight on Sunday, December 7, when a 65-year-old farmer, Ranjit Rabha from Mouchoa village under Hahim, was tragically killed in a wild elephant attack while guarding his paddy field. The elephant charged at him unexpectedly, leading to his immediate death. Authorities, including forest personnel from the Bondapara Range Office and the local police, promptly arrived on the scene to recover his body.
In a disturbing follow-up incident on Monday morning, panic engulfed residents of Ghoramara, located in the Chamaria Constituency, when a rabid fox attacked several children in the area. Six young minors were injured during this frightening episode. The injured included three-year-old Hafiza Khatun and six-year-old Amirul Ali, both of whom were taken to the Goraimari Community Health Centre for emergency medical treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, Hafiza was later referred to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for specialized care.
These alarming wildlife encounters have instilled fear within the community, prompting residents to express deep concerns about the safety of children. They are calling for immediate action from forest and district authorities to address the situation and prevent any further incidents.
