Unleash the Magic of Cinema: Hyderabad Welcomes the 30th European Union Film Festival Starting December 5!
Hyderabad is set to welcome the 30th European Union Film Festival (EUFF), running from December 5 to 14. Following successful screenings in New Delhi and Bengaluru, this year’s festival will kick off with the Dutch film Memory Lane, directed by Jelle de Jonge.
The festival will take place over ten days at three prominent venues: Prasad Lab Preview Theatre and Alliance Francaise, both in Banjara Hills, as well as Sri Sarathi Studios in Ameerpet. Audiences will have the opportunity to experience a diverse selection of films from 22 European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Ukraine.
Notable entries in this year’s lineup include Julie Keeps Quiet from Belgium, which explores the journey of a young athlete facing silence and power amidst a scandal. Austria’s Happy tells the poignant story of an undocumented immigrant striving to secure a better future for his daughter. Meanwhile, the French film Holy Cow presents a resilient coming-of-age story, while Germany’s Dying offers a darkly humorous take on mortality and strained relationships. Denmark’s Matters of the Heart delves into family dynamics influenced by alcoholism, and Romania’s Three Kilometres to the End of the World confronts themes of prejudice and identity in a small village. Italy’s Familia offers a nuanced look at the complexities of modern family life.
Hervé Delphin, the Ambassador of the European Union to India, expressed enthusiasm for returning to Hyderabad, noting, “We are excited to bring the festival back to Hyderabad after the warm reception we received last year. This city does not just love cinema; it has a remarkable appetite for every form of storytelling.” He also commended local filmmakers like SS Rajamouli and Sandeep Reddy Vanga for their impactful contributions to contemporary cinema.
The EUFF is organized by the Delegation of the European Union to India in collaboration with the Embassies of EU Member States and the Hyderabad Film Club. This festival not only showcases a rich array of international films but also fosters cultural exchange and appreciation among audiences.
