United Front: Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar Show Solidarity After Meeting
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, alongside Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, sought to counter opposition claims regarding a rift within the Congress party. After a breakfast meeting at Siddaramaiah’s residence, the Chief Minister emphasized their unity, stating, “There are no differences between DK Shivakumar and me… We go together.” He also addressed speculation about a potential no-confidence motion from the BJP and JDS, asserting, “We will face it.”
Siddaramaiah discussed recent visits by some Congress MLAs to the party’s high command in Delhi, clarifying that these visits were not indicative of discontent. He explained that their intentions were likely related to aspirations for ministerial positions, and that any decisions in this regard would be made by the Congress high command. “Whatever the high command says, we will go by that,” he asserted, insisting there was no confusion on this matter.
The Chief Minister dismissed the BJP and JDS allegations, emphasizing the strength of their numbers-140 Congress members versus the BJP’s 60 and JDS’s 18. He stated that the focus is now on the upcoming 2028 Assembly elections, outlining their agenda to regain prominence by emphasizing local body elections and unifying their efforts.
Deputy CM Shivakumar echoed Siddaramaiah’s sentiments, later mentioning that he would host the Chief Minister for lunch or dinner. He affirmed their commitment to the party, stating, “Whatever the high command says, that will be our decision.” Shivakumar expressed confidence in their ability to repeat their success in Karnataka, aiming for a strong showing under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi moving into 2028 and beyond.
Additionally, Shivakumar highlighted the importance of addressing critical issues during the upcoming winter session of Parliament, criticizing the central government’s failure to deliver on promises related to sugarcane and maize. He reiterated the necessity for Congress members in Parliament to effectively advocate for the state’s needs.
Despite these reassurances from Congress leaders, the opposition remains skeptical. JDU MLA Nikhil Kumaraswamy remarked that while Congress members may appear united for breakfast, the party remains divided at its core, expressing that the people of Karnataka continue to suffer as a result.
