Young Carpenter Tragically Killed in Wild Elephant Attack in Kaliabor
The ongoing human-elephant conflict in Kaliabor has resulted in another tragic fatality, raising alarm among residents in the forest-fringe areas. The incident took place late at night in Nam Kamakhya village, where a wild elephant fatally attacked a young villager.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Bhuwan Bordoloi, locally known as Dhoon Bordoloi. He was a carpenter who worked diligently to support his family. Eyewitness accounts suggest that Bhuwan stepped outside his home to chase away a herd of elephants that had invaded local paddy fields. In a sudden turn of events, one of the elephants charged at him, leading to his immediate death from the force of the attack.
For several weeks, areas such as Rangalu, Chikoni, Majgaon, Jawkata, Mathowkhat, and Nam Kamakhya have experienced frequent elephant intrusions. These incursions pose significant threats to human lives, agricultural crops, and local livelihoods.
In response to the escalating risks, residents are calling for immediate action from forest authorities and the government to address these incidents and enhance the safety of the affected communities.
