The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) submitted a memorandum to the Sikkim Public Service Commission (SPSC) Controller of Examination on Friday, seeking clarification regarding the backlash on social media surrounding the recently announced results for Sub Inspectors (SI) in the Sikkim Police. The party is demanding the publication of the complete SI recruitment results from both the written and physical tests.
A delegation from the SDF visited the SPSC office to address concerns about nepotism and alleged political pressure affecting the examination results. Cheli Morcha in-charge Komal Chamling stated, “Residents across the state have expressed concerns about unfairness in the examination process. We are here to seek clarification after many candidates reported their grievances to us.”
Upon arriving, the SDF delegation found the gates of the SPSC office closed and felt prepared for a confrontation, prompting suspicions about the handling of their concerns. “We are uncertain about the situation, especially as the chairman was not available to address us. The atmosphere felt defensive,” Chamling added.
The group pressed for transparency, with Chamling emphasizing that all candidates’ results, both written and physical, should be made public. “Considering the dissatisfaction among the public, the nature of this situation requires full disclosure. We have submitted an application, and the SPSC has informed us that the chairman will return on December 5 to respond to our inquiries,” she explained to the media.
Chamling highlighted the critical issue of trust in public institutions stating, “As a responsible opposition party, it is our duty to question the ruling government. Allegations of misconduct have been raised from various sources, and the SPSC has a responsibility to give a public clarification.”
SDF spokesperson Arun Limboo expressed that students who hope to secure jobs after education should not be subjected to injustice. He recalled the Chief Minister’s pre-election promise, “Keep the SKM slogans alive for two months, and you will become an inspector,” noting that there was no mention of interviews in the context of the SPSC examinations. Limboo pointed out that many candidates appeared to have political affiliations, as seen in social media posts.
The SDF has asserted that they are awaiting a clarification from the SPSC regarding this important recruitment process and added, “While we are not condemning all candidates, some irregularities must be addressed.”
