Tragic Collision Near Ayeng Village: One Fatality and Many Injured
A serious road accident occurred on Thursday evening near the welcome gate of Ayeng village in the Mebo Sub-Division of East Siang District, resulting in multiple injuries and one fatality. The incident involved a pick-up truck transporting students from Adi Pasi village in Upper Siang District, which collided with a parked dumper truck. The students were reportedly returning from their daily wage work in crop harvesting, having been educated in various schools and colleges in Pasighat.
Emergency responders quickly initiated medical assistance at Bakin Pertin General Hospital (BPGH) in Pasighat. Witnesses reported that many of the injured required immediate medical attention due to the severity of their wounds. A medical team noted that the pick-up truck contained eight youths in its cargo bed; additionally, a young girl and her father, who owned the vehicle and was also the driver, were involved in the crash.
The collision resulted in critical injuries for several individuals. The young girl, her father, and another youth have been referred to Dibrugarh for advanced medical treatment. Unfortunately, Shri Dino Dai was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Among the victims were students ranging from Class IX to college first semester, who had been engaged in agricultural work at Ayeng village.
The precise cause of the accident remains under investigation. Early statements suggest that brake failure may have led the pick-up truck to collide with the stationary dumper truck. Meanwhile, the driver is currently receiving medical care in Dibrugarh, and a youth named Shri Mirem Moyong is still hospitalized.
Recognizing the emergency’s scale, the doctors’ association at BPGH reached out to off-duty doctors for immediate assistance. Medical professionals from various specialties, including ENT, orthopaedics, surgery, anaesthesia, and general medicine, promptly responded, ensuring that every patient received the urgent care they needed. Their coordinated efforts were vital in stabilizing the injured and delivering life-saving interventions.
The collaborative efforts of hospital staff were praised by those involved. An on-duty doctor expressed gratitude, stating, “A real thanks and gratitude to everyone who came to help in such an hour of need. I wouldn’t have managed without all your help; there could have been more casualties.”
Updates from senior medical personnel indicated that necessary care had been administered to the injured, with some already discharged and others still undergoing treatment. Dr. Bomni Tayeng and Dr. Kaling Jerang emphasized their dedication to providing medical services to patients, affirming their commitment to support the community even when off-duty.
