Empower Your Skills: Join APRINS’s Mizo Chilli Pickle & Banana Chips Training!
APRINS, a non-governmental organization founded in 2009, has initiated a training program aimed at teaching pickle making using the Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Mizo Chilli, also known as Bird’s Eye Chilli, along with banana chips production. The program started on November 25, 2025, in Sesawng, close to Aizawl, with the goal of empowering 200 local women.
During the launch event, Mr. Chandan Borthakur, Managing Director of APRINS, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, “This is an important step towards meeting our goal of strengthening the grassroots, especially in North East India. By imparting marketable skills using indigenous resources, we aim to foster economic independence among rural women.”
The ceremony was attended by notable guests, including Mr. Lalringngheta, Vice President of Village Council II, Mr. Vanlalnghaka of the Sesawng Farmer Producer Company Limited, Ms. Papori Chutia from APRINS, along with Dr. Hriatpuia, Mr. Varhmingliana, and Mr. Malsawmtluanga.
Participants showed great enthusiasm for the program. Trainee Ms. Zirsangzeli remarked, “This is a good initiative as I look forward to making Mizo Chilli pickle which is GI-tagged. This will help in taking Mizo chilli pickle to the world and I will be able to earn some extra income.” Another trainee, Ms. F. Lalrinfeli, expressed her anticipation for learning about banana chips making, noting, “We have bananas in abundance here. We welcome such programmes and are thankful to LIC HFL and APRINS for making this happen.”
This training initiative is designed to provide sustainable income-generating opportunities for rural women while promoting the distinct GI-tagged Mizo Chilli and the locally abundant bananas on both national and international stages. The entire project is funded through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts of LIC Housing Finance Limited (LIC HFL).
