Nagaland NHM Workers Threaten Total Strike: Urgent Pay Demands
Kohima, November 23 (MExN): The National Health Mission Employee Association Nagaland (NEAN) has announced a potential work stoppage if the State Government fails to pay all outstanding salaries by December 10. This warning comes after NEAN’s General Body Meeting held on November 22 in Dimapur.
NEAN expressed its growing frustration, stating, “The NHM employees shall not bear it anymore.” For years, employees have had to adjust to regular salary delays, which have become a recurring issue.
Despite the ongoing hardships, NEAN affirmed that its members have diligently fulfilled their responsibilities, providing essential services to the public and adhering to departmental duties. The association emphasized that while NHM staff have often accepted payment delays as the status quo, such circumstances should never be normalized. They demand timely remuneration for their hard work under challenging conditions.
The ongoing delays have wreaked havoc on the lives of NHM employees. Many have not received their salaries since September 2025, and even the payments for August were only disbursed after numerous appeals. This situation has led to severe financial strain on workers, affecting their ability to support their families, pay rent and loans, and meet basic needs.
NEAN reiterated the vital role that NHM employees play within the Health Department, underscoring that they are the backbone of health services and public health management. Moving forward, the association has made it clear that they will no longer tolerate delays in salary payments.
To address this persistent issue, NEAN has urged the Government to implement a strategy that reserves salaries for at least two to three months in advance whenever funds are received from the Government of India. This measure is hoped to ensure seamless operations within health service offices.
The association concluded with a plea for immediate actions to resolve the situation, stating, “We sincerely hope that immediate steps be taken to resolve this matter so that services can continue without disruption.” This statement was released by NEAN President Dr. Thungjamo Ngullie and General Secretary Kewetso Kenye.
