Ariana Grande Delays ‘Wicked: For Good’ Promotions Following COVID-19 Diagnosis
Ariana Grande has paused her promotional activities for “Wicked: For Good” after announcing that she has tested positive for COVID-19. The singer-actress shared the news on Instagram, posting a backstage photo from her recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” with the caption, “Moments before Covid.”
This update comes after her conspicuous absence during the film’s New York premiere, where she opted out of scheduled interviews. Additionally, co-star Cynthia Erivo has also been feeling ill and has temporarily lost her voice.
According to Variety, Grande has canceled an upcoming taped segment on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and will miss forthcoming Q&A events. This setback mirrors experiences from the filming of the first “Wicked” movie, where both Grande and Erivo tested positive for COVID-19 at different times-Erivo shortly before filming the song “Defying Gravity,” and Grande just ahead of “Popular.”
The two have been actively promoting director Jon M. Chu’s “Wicked: For Good,” which serves as the second installment in Universal’s adaptation of the beloved novel and Broadway musical. In the film, Grande reprises her role as Glinda, who is now portrayed as a polished symbol of “Good” in Emerald City. Erivo returns as Elphaba, the misunderstood character determined to reveal the truth about the Wizard, played by Jeff Goldblum.
“Wicked: For Good” is set to be released in theaters on November 21.
