Jaismine Lamboria delivered a stunning performance at the World Boxing Cup Finals, defeating Olympic medalist Wu Shih Yi, while fellow competitors Nikhat Zareen, Parveen, Minakshi, Preeti, Arundhati, and Nupur also secured gold medals. This triumphant achievement marked India’s most successful outing in boxing history, with a total of nine gold medals claimed on a historic final day at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex.

In front of an enthusiastic home crowd, India showcased its dominance across crucial Olympic-class divisions, particularly with the women achieving an unprecedented sweep. The male pugilists also contributed significantly, adding two gold medals to the nation’s impressive tally, leading to an overall total of nine golds, six silvers, and five bronzes. Remarkably, all 20 Indian boxers who participated registered podium finishes.

The day was notably highlighted by the women’s category, with Minakshi (48kg), Preeti (54kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), and Nupur (80+kg) all winning gold medals. Lamboria emerged as the star of the evening session, earning a decisive victory in her weight class of 57kg. Reigning World Champion Nikhat Zareen (51kg) and Parveen (60kg) also claimed their spots at the top of the podium, underscoring India’s rising prominence in global boxing, especially with the Los Angeles Olympics ahead, which aims to create gender parity across weight categories.

In the standout match of the evening, Jaismine Lamboria surprised the audience by defeating Paris Olympic medalist Wu Shih Yi 4:1. She controlled the fight from the outset with smooth combinations and handled late pressure with grace, securing one of India’s most significant victories in this event. Nikhat Zareen showcased her expertise by outclassing Guo Yi Xuan from Chinese Taipei with a 5:0 score, while Parveen achieved a close 3:2 victory against Japan’s Ayaka Taguchi, relying on sharp counters and agile movement.

Earlier in the day, Minakshi initiated the medal success with a commanding 5:0 win over reigning Asian Champion Farzona Fozilova, demonstrating speed, precision, and solid defense. Preeti followed suit with an emphatic 5:0 victory against Italy’s Sirine Charrabi, applying constant pressure and executing effective strikes.

Arundhati Choudhary, making a remarkable comeback after 18 months, dominated Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova with a definitive 5:0 win characterized by tactical precision. Nupur, in a tightly contested match, edged out Uzbekistan’s Sotimboeva Oltinoy 3:2, claiming her first title at the World Boxing Cup Finals.

In the men’s events, India secured two additional golds. Sachin (60kg) achieved a flawless 5:0 win over Kyrgyzstan’s Munarbek uulu Seiitbek, showcasing exceptional accuracy and control. Hitesh (70kg) delivered a thrilling comeback victory, overcoming an early deficit to defeat Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Mursal 3:2.

India also celebrated six silver medalists, including Jadumani Singh (50kg), Pawan Bartwal (55kg), Abhinash Jamwal (65kg), and Ankush Phangal (80kg), all of whom had impressive performances in one of the most competitive fields in World Boxing Cup history. Narender Berwal (90+kg) narrowly missed gold, losing 5:0 to Uzbekistan’s Khalimjon Mamasoliev, while Pooja Rani fought valiantly but lost to World Cup medalist Agata Kaczmarska in the women’s 80kg final.

In addition to India’s record-breaking performance, other significant results included standout victories by Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree in the women’s 75kg category and Olympic medalist Chen Nien-Chin of Chinese Taipei in the women’s 65kg division. Uzbekistan showcased strength across various divisions, with Asilbek Jalilov (50kg), Samandar Olimov (55kg), Javokhir Abdurakhimov (75kg), and Mamasoliev (90+kg) each winning gold. England celebrated champions Shittu Oladimeji and Isaac Okoh, while Japan and Kazakhstan added to their medal counts with victories in various weight classes.
