Revealed: Foreign Links in Delhi’s Red Fort Suicide Attack Investigation
Authorities investigating the deadly Delhi blast have frozen bank accounts totaling over Rs 2 lakh while they trace digital communication, chats, and funding routes linked to the perpetrators. According to a report by The Indian Express, security agencies looking into the explosion near the Red Fort have uncovered a “widespread network” linking alleged foreign handlers in Afghanistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to local operatives. Among these operatives is Umar Nabi, the prime suspect in the suicide bombing that claimed at least 12 lives. Investigators have identified two handlers, Faisal Ishfaq Bhat and Dr. Ukasha, who are believed to be in contact with Indian operatives.
The report also indicates that a third operative named Hashim has been communicating with the now-arrested cleric, Maulvi Irfan Ahmad Wagay, and members of the module via Telegram. The investigation into the connections between these foreign handlers and local operatives surfaced last month after officials began investigating threatening posters bearing the insignia of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), which appeared in various locations on October 19. The following day, three men from Nowgam-Yasir-ul-Ashraf, Arif Nisar, and Maqsood Ahmad Dar-were arrested. Suspects reportedly confessed that the posters were their work, with Yasir dictating the text and Arif producing it using an Urdu-font app.
On November 5, Dr. Rathar was apprehended in Saharanpur, but Umar remained elusive, allegedly disappearing from Al-Falah University on the same day Dr. Ganai was taken into custody. Consequently, a look-out notice was issued while search teams were sent to Delhi, Faridabad, and Saharanpur, yet Umar did not surface.
CCTV footage captured Umar on November 10 in Old Delhi, driving a white Hyundai i20, entering a parking zone near the Red Fort at 3:19 PM. The vehicle remained parked for several hours before entering heavy traffic at 6:48 PM, shortly before a massive blast rocked the area, resulting in 12 fatalities. Forensic teams later determined that the explosive device was composed of ammonium nitrate, potassium compounds, and TATP, a blend known for its potential to produce significant destructive force.
