Uddhav-Raj Thackeray Honors Balasaheb Thackeray’s Legacy at Shivaji Park
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray paid tribute to Balasaheb Thackeray on November 17 at Dadar’s Shivaji Park, commemorating the 13th anniversary of his death. The Thackeray cousins were joined by Rashmi Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray, and other party leaders at the memorial known as Shiv Tirth. Balasaheb Thackeray, the founder of Shiv Sena, passed away from cardiac arrest in 2012 at the age of 86.
Despite his health issues, Sanjay Raut, a prominent member of the Shiv Sena UBT, attended the memorial to honor Balasaheb Thackeray. Raut had previously announced plans to take a break from public life for several months due to ongoing health concerns.
Balasaheb, often referred to as the Hindu Hridaysamrat, or Emperor of Hindu Hearts, never held an official government position, yet he significantly influenced the political landscape of Mumbai through his powerful oratory.
Earlier in the day, Uddhav Thackeray expressed his sentiments on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Sir, how much you have done for us! It is because of you that even today the backbone of ours stands tall. As long as the power named ‘Hindu Hridaysamrat’ is with us, we have no fear of anything!”
Eknath Shinde, who separated from the united Shiv Sena in 2022 to form his own party under the same name, also paid homage to Balasaheb Thackeray on social media, remarking that his thoughts and memories “will forever remain in our hearts.”
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar also shared his tributes, noting that Balasaheb wielded his words like arrows against his opponents, demonstrating both sharpness and generosity. He added, “His satirical cartoons wounded many. Yet, throughout his life, he selflessly maintained friendships beyond politics without introducing any bitterness into them. This humble tribute on his remembrance day honors the late Balasaheb Thackeray, whose immense contributions to India’s political and social spheres make Maharashtra’s history incomplete without him.”
