Urgent Action: 21 Arrested in Assam for Supporting Delhi Car Blast
Authorities in Assam have arrested 21 individuals for showing support on social media for the terrorists responsible for the car blast at Delhi’s Red Fort. These arrests span several districts, including Darrang, Goalpara, Nalbari, Chirang, Kamrup, Bongaigaon, Hailakandi, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Hojai, South Salmara, Bajali, and Dhubri. The initiative is part of a broader crackdown by the Assam Police aimed at individuals promoting anti-national content online.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the arrests in a post on social media platform X, stating, “Another anti-national has been arrested by Assam Police, bringing the total to 21. We will NOT tolerate anyone expressing support online for terrorists behind the Delhi Terror Attacks.” Earlier reports indicated that 17 people had already been detained for “lauding” the Red Fort attack, which resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people and injured over 20 others.
The attack was linked to Dr. Umar un-Nabi, a Kashmiri doctor who was driving the vehicle that detonated in a suicide blast. He was employed at Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana. Security agencies discovered diaries belonging to Dr. Umar and his colleague, Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie. These diaries, dated from November 8 to 12, contain entries suggesting that the attack was being planned during that time and also list about 25 names, primarily from Jammu and Kashmir and Faridabad.
