How the ‘Vote Chor’ Slogan Backfired on Congress in Bihar Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Manipur has stated that the results of the recent Bihar Assembly elections highlight the ineffectiveness of the Congress party’s ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ campaign. Speaking at a press conference on November 15, BJP state vice-president Ch Chidananda Singh criticized the campaign, which was led by Rahul Gandhi, indicating that it ultimately “backfired” on the opposition.
Singh asserted that the initiative, which Congress had branded as a nationwide movement, failed to resonate with voters. He remarked, “The so-called ‘hydrogen bomb’ strategy detonated only within Congress offices, causing distress within the party.” He emphasized that the Bihar election results would likely increase anxiety among Congress members, suggesting that those who previously required 2 mg of blood pressure medication would now need 5 mg in light of the outcome.
The ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ campaign aimed to counter allegations of electoral malpractice, yet the BJP believes the recent election results have diminished its value as a political tactic. According to Singh, the Bihar mandate has revealed a significant setback for the Congress party, underscoring the challenges they face in winning over voters.
