Congress President Urges Immediate Action Amid Tripura Flood Crisis
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has voiced his deep concern regarding the severe flood situation in Tripura, a result of recent heavy rainfall. Kharge called on both the Central and State governments to take prompt action, including relief and rehabilitation measures. He also urged Congress leaders and workers to support affected communities.
In a post on social media platform X, Kharge highlighted that approximately 5,600 families have sought refuge in relief camps. He extended condolences to the families of the deceased and called for swift compensation. Furthermore, he emphasized the urgent need for more National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams in the flood-affected regions, alongside the immediate provision of food and medical aid.
The flooding has displaced around 34,100 people and damaged 887 houses. As of the latest update from the State Emergency Operation Centre on August 21, a total of 331 relief camps have been established to shelter affected individuals. The death toll has reached 10.
Detailed district reports show that in the North District, eight relief camps are hosting 269 people, while Unakoti District has opened 48 camps for 6,626 people. Dhalai District has 33 camps accommodating 2,057 individuals. Sepahijala has set up five camps for 109 people. The West District has opened 26 camps, sheltering 7,549 people. Khowai has 46 camps for 7,138 people. Gomati District has the highest number of relief camps at 132, with 6,759 individuals taking shelter. South District has established 35 camps for 2,333 people.
The Tripura flood crisis has triggered a substantial relief effort, prompting calls for urgent measures to mitigate the disaster’s impact and assist those in need.
