Transforming Healthcare: Bike Ambulances Launch on Sitharaman’s First Day
Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman commenced her three-day visit to Nagaland on November 13, focusing on support for the ‘Aspirational District’ of Kiphire. During her visit to the District Hospital Kiphire (DHK), she announced a financial assistance package of Rs 64.81 lakh for advanced medical equipment and inaugurated five multi-utility bike ambulances.
The support, articulated under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of the State Bank of India (SBI), includes Rs 5.81 lakh allocated for the DHK blood bank and Rs 59 lakh for the general hospital. The bike ambulances, valued at Rs 20 lakh, are aimed at enhancing medical access in remote areas, marking a significant advancement in healthcare logistics.
Dr. Watsutho Nyuthe, the Medical Superintendent of Kiphire, provided an overview of the DHK’s facilities. A nurse also shared personal insights from her over three-decade-long commitment to the community, adding a human touch to the proceedings.
In her address, Sitharaman commended SBI for its proactive approach to addressing healthcare challenges by providing essential medical equipment. She underscored the importance of modern technology in improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment effectiveness.
Expressing her appreciation to the State government and local administration for their hospitality, she described her visit to Nagaland as a privilege and an opportunity to appreciate the region’s natural beauty. She highlighted the careful planning that went into her trip to Kiphire, allowing her to engage with the community’s aspirations and implement various CSR projects.
Sitharaman’s past engagements with the State government have ensured that substantial CSR funding flows into Nagaland during her visits. Accompanied by Imna Along, the Minister for Tourism and Higher Education, and other officials, she engaged with community leaders, including “Lakhpati Didi” and representatives from the four major tribes of Kiphire-Sangtam, Sumi, Tikhir, and Yimkhiung.
To honor her visit, a public program is set for November 14 at the Public Ground in Kiphire, where she will also inaugurate the Industrial Training Institute. Following this, her itinerary includes a launch event for the AI Centre of Excellence for Skilling at the Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre in Dimapur on November 15.
Earlier that morning, she received a warm welcome at the Dimapur airport from Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, and other cabinet ministers.
