Urgent Action: Teacher Suspended and Students Transferred After Assam Ragging Incident
The district administration in Morigaon has enacted strict disciplinary measures against a teacher and several students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) following a ragging incident reported earlier this month. On Thursday, officials announced that the school’s House Master, Bishwajit Chowdhury, has been suspended for failing to fulfill his responsibilities, while Vice Principal Dhrubajyoti Sharma has been reassigned to JNV Mokokchung in Nagaland.
The actions come after an inquiry by a committee composed of representatives from the district administration, police, and JNV authorities. Nine senior students involved in the assault of a junior on November 5 have been transferred to other JNV schools across Assam.
Additional District Commissioner (Education) Anusuya Sarma stated that the administration has instructed the parents of these students to submit written commitments ensuring their children refrain from engaging in such behavior in the future. Furthermore, teachers have been warned to uphold their duties as House Masters responsibly to prevent similar incidents going forward.
