Jaishankar Engages with Marco Rubio: A Diplomatic Response to Delhi Blast
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which Rubio expressed his condolences regarding the recent car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi. Jaishankar shared details of their discussion in a post on X, stating it was a “good meeting.” The talks primarily focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in trade and supply chains. Jaishankar acknowledged Rubio’s sympathies for the lives lost in the blast, which has heightened security alerts in the capital. “We talked about our bilateral ties, particularly in trade and supply chains, and exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East and West Asia, and the Indo-Pacific,” he noted.
The explosion occurred on November 10, near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 individuals and leaving several others severely injured. Following this tragic incident, the United States announced it was closely monitoring the situation, with a U.S. State Department spokesperson expressing readiness to offer consular assistance as needed.
This meeting took place during the two-day G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which is currently being hosted by Canada in Niagara-on-the-Lake, near the U.S. border. Foreign ministers from Canada, the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, and Japan are also in attendance. The discussions are occurring against a backdrop of global tensions ranging from the ongoing Ukraine conflict to crises in the Middle East and economic shifts in the Indo-Pacific region.
