The Indian government has officially classified the car explosion that occurred outside the Red Fort on November 10 as a terrorist incident. Authorities have been instructed to pursue the investigation “with the utmost urgency and professionalism” to ensure that those responsible, along with their sponsors, are brought to justice without delay.
During a Union Cabinet meeting on November 12, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his return from Bhutan, ministers observed a two-minute silence in honor of the 12 victims who lost their lives in the blast.
In a resolution adopted by the Cabinet, the act was condemned as a “dastardly and cowardly” deed carried out by anti-national forces. The explosion not only resulted in fatalities but also left several individuals injured.
Prior to the Cabinet meeting, Modi visited Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital to meet with the victims of the attack. He also convened the Cabinet Committee on Security to assess the situation.
The investigation has progressed swiftly, with authorities arresting eight individuals, including three doctors, on the very same day as the explosion. This was part of a crackdown on an inter-state “white-collar” terror module.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conveyed “heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families” while highlighting the prompt actions of medical personnel and emergency services.
The Cabinet further expressed gratitude for the international solidarity received, acknowledging “statements of solidarity and support from many governments around the world.”
The resolution reiterated India’s “unwavering commitment to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.” It recognized the bravery and compassion shown by authorities, security agencies, and citizens in response to the attack.
Government officials confirmed that the situation “continues to be closely monitored at the highest levels” as investigators work to uncover the complete network behind the attack. The Cabinet remains resolute in its commitment to safeguard the lives and well-being of all Indians.
