The explosion, which took place on Monday evening, resulted in at least eight fatalities and left 20 individuals injured. This tragic incident involved a car explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station at 6:52 p.m. local time, causing significant chaos and destruction in the busy area.
The US State Department is also tracking the situation and has expressed its readiness to provide consular assistance. A spokesperson stated, “We are aware of the explosion near Red Fort in Delhi. We are closely monitoring the situation.” Additionally, the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs expressed its condolences on social media, saying, “Our hearts are with those affected by the terrible explosion in New Delhi. We continue to closely monitor the situation and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
Authorities revealed that the blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car and emerged shortly after police dismantled a terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind in Faridabad, recovering nearly 2,900 kg of explosives and various weapons. Police have apprehended two doctors from Jammu and Kashmir, Adil Ahmad Rather and Muzammil, who are believed to be connected to these terror groups. Sources indicate that the fractured operation may have led to the panic that triggered the explosion.
Investigators speculate that the explosion may have resulted from one of the suspects, Dr. Umar Mohhamad, panicking while handling the explosives. In response to the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged that investigative agencies will thoroughly investigate the situation. “All those responsible will be brought to justice,” he assured.
Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with senior officials, directing them to “hunt down each and every culprit behind this incident.” He emphasized that those involved in this act would face the full force of law enforcement.
