Experience the Magic: Over 200 Singers Unite for Zubeen Garg Tribute
In remembrance of the late singer Zubeen Garg, over 200 singers from various parts of Assam will gather for a musical tribute called ‘Zubeen-Jonak Kontholoi Xuror Orghya’ on November 19 at the Assam Engineering Institute playground in Chandmari. This announcement was made during a press conference at the Guwahati Press Club on Monday. The event will commence at 5 PM and will honor Garg’s legacy by featuring around 200 songs he originally performed, spanning devotional, modern, folk, and ethnic music genres.
This tribute is a collective effort by Assam’s music community to pay homage to the artist, whose unexpected death last month left many in the state in mourning. The organizing committee includes prominent figures such as Anupam Saikia, Tarali Sharma, Rupam Bhuyan, Nirmali Das, Barnali Kalita, and Subhasna Dutta. Nearly 400 singers have pledged their support for this event. The organizers have invited the public to join in, emphasizing that no entry passes or tickets will be required.
Preparations for the tribute are already in motion, with artists rehearsing Garg’s most beloved songs that have shaped Assamese music for over three decades. Notable artists present at the press conference included Anupam Saikia, Barnali Kalita, Rupam Bhuyan, Kallol Barthakur, Subasana Dutta, Geetali Devi, Rakesh Riyan, and Dipalina Deka.
