Chief Minister M.K. Stalin convened a meeting with top government officials in Chennai on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, to address the serious case of sexual assault on students by fake NCC trainers in a private school in Bargur, Krishnagiri district. Following the discussions, Stalin mandated the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into the incidents under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Inspector General of Police (Establishment) K. Bhavaneeswari will head the SIT, which will investigate the case already registered at the Bargur All Women Police Station. According to an official press release, five of the six fraudulent trainers involved have been apprehended, as well as four members of the school management accused of covering up the crime. It was revealed that these fake trainers also conducted camps in various other schools and colleges, prompting further investigation into potential other criminal activities.
Moreover, Stalin ordered the creation of an eight-member Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to support the victims and their families, investigate the incident’s circumstances, and recommend preventive measures. Led by Jayashree Muralidharan, Secretary, Social Welfare Department, the MDT includes officials from Social Defence, School Education, and Police Departments, along with Psychiatrists and Child Welfare Committee members.
The Chief Minister has emphasized a swift investigation, demanding it be completed within 15 days, with a charge sheet to be filed within 60 days.
This decisive move aims to ensure justice for the victims and safeguard other institutions from similar threats, reflecting the government’s commitment to child protection and institutional accountability.
