Tragedy Strikes: Eight Dead in Devastating Car Explosion Near Red Fort
A powerful explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in New Delhi on Monday evening resulted in the death of at least eight individuals and left several others injured, causing panic in one of the city’s busiest areas. Initial reports indicate that the blast originated from an Eco van, igniting a fire that spread to several nearby vehicles. Witnesses described the noise as “deafening,” with the explosion shattering streetlights and scattering debris across the road.
Authorities reported that fifteen people were transported to Lok Nayak Hospital; eight were pronounced dead upon arrival, while three remain in critical condition. Fire officials confirmed that five to six vehicles sustained severe damage due to the blast. In response to the fire, seven fire tenders were deployed while the police cordoned off the affected area and redirected traffic.
Forensic and technical teams have begun to investigate the charred remains of the van, and both the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG) are involved in the ongoing investigation. Security measures have been heightened throughout the capital, with Delhi Police conducting checkpoints and random inspections at key intersections, metro stations, and border areas.
This incident follows a significant seizure in Haryana last week, where approximately 360 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate and a stash of weapons were found in a residence rented by a Kashmiri doctor in Faridabad. In light of recent events, authorities are increasing vigilance throughout the National Capital Region, particularly along Delhi’s borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, as well as in sensitive locations such as railway stations, markets, and metro facilities.
As officials continue to investigate the blast, the cause remains undetermined, and authorities are working to establish whether it was an accident or part of a more extensive plot.
