J&K Police Uncover Major JeM-AGuH Terror Plot; 7 Arrested, 2,900 kg Explosives Seized
The Jammu and Kashmir Police, in a collaborative effort with Haryana Police and central agencies, have successfully dismantled a significant inter-state terror network connected to the Pakistan-based group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and the al-Qaeda-affiliated Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH). This operation followed the discovery of a substantial cache of explosives in Faridabad, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals, including two doctors, who are suspected to have been involved in the terror plot.
Officials reported that approximately 2,900 kilograms of materials suitable for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs), along with firearms and ammunition, were seized during the coordinated raids across Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. The operation benefitted from the support of the Intelligence Bureau.
A police spokesperson emphasized the operation as a considerable achievement in counter-terrorism efforts, stating that “the J&K Police has broken up an inter-state and transnational terror module associated with banned organizations JeM and AGuH,” highlighting the arrests of key operatives and the recovering of a vast cache of arms and explosives.
The breakthrough came shortly after Haryana Police recovered 350 kilograms of explosive materials, including ammonium nitrate, from a rented accommodation in Faridabad’s Dhauj village, which was linked to Dr. Muzammil Shakil, a Kashmiri doctor employed at Al Falah University. Initially misidentified as RDX, the substance was confirmed to be ammonium nitrate.
Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta mentioned that Dr. Shakil had previously attracted attention for allegedly displaying posters supportive of JeM in Srinagar and was arrested on October 30. Another doctor, Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather, was also apprehended for his connections to the same terror network.
As the investigation progressed, a female doctor emerged as a primary suspect in the conspiracy. Police sources revealed that an assault rifle and other weapons were found in a vehicle registered in Haryana and linked to her. The cache included an AK Krinkov rifle with three magazines, a pistol with live ammunition, and additional magazines, indicating the group’s access to advanced weaponry and operational capabilities extending beyond Jammu and Kashmir.
Investigators suspect that the detained individuals were part of a broader plan to transport explosives and weapons for potential terrorist activities across northern India. The police believe that the module was being facilitated by contacts on the other side of the border associated with JeM and AGuH, marking one of the largest counter-terrorism successes in recent months.
