Minister Khattar Advocates for Innovative Urban Mobility in Tier-2 and 3 Cities
Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar emphasized the urgent need for urban mobility planning in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. He stated that such planning should commence immediately to ensure these cities are well-prepared and organized by the time they progress into Tier-1 urban centers. Khattar made these remarks during the valedictory session of the 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Exhibition 2025 held in Gurugram. This year’s three-day conference attracted over 1,600 delegates from eight countries, reflecting the growing significance of urban mobility solutions.
During the event, Khattar also introduced the logo and website for the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme. This initiative aims to deploy 10,000 electric buses using a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, targeting both urban and smaller cities. The scheme is part of broader efforts to enhance sustainable public transportation options and reduce carbon emissions across various regions. The Minister’s call for proactive urban planning highlights the importance of developing robust infrastructure that can adapt to future growth demands.
