India on the Brink of Reclaiming Its Glorious Legacy: Justice Maheshwari Inspires at CUK Convocation
Saniya Samreen was awarded a Gold Medal by Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Chairperson of the Law Commission of India and former Supreme Court Judge, during the 9th Convocation of the Central University of Karnataka (CUK) held on November 8, 2025. The ceremony took place at the university’s multipurpose hall in Kadaganchi, celebrating the achievements of its graduates.
In his convocation address, Justice Maheshwari emphasized India’s pivotal position on the global stage, noting its emergence as the fourth largest economy and a digital leader. He encouraged graduates to leverage their education for societal benefit while remaining grounded in the nation’s rich civilizational values. “Your journey ahead will be filled with numerous possibilities, but it must always be anchored in purpose and values,” he urged, reminding attendees that every degree carries a moral obligation.
Justice Maheshwari spoke specifically to the challenges of the digital age, stating that the true asset for graduates is not merely their academic credentials but their discernment-the capacity to understand the nuances of sharing information thoughtfully. He stated, “In a world of Artificial Intelligence, be the people who demonstrate authentic intelligence, infused with ancient insights.” He underscored the importance of critical questioning, noting that as information becomes more readily available, true intelligence is defined by the ability to probe deeply rather than accumulate knowledge superficially.
Highlighting their constitutional responsibilities, Justice Maheshwari pointed out that a fundamental duty of citizens is to foster inquiry, reform, and scientific understanding rooted in humanism. He celebrated Karnataka’s historical contributions to knowledge, remarking, “Karnataka gave the world ‘zero’ and now gives the world AI engineers.”
The event was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Battu Satyanarayana, who reported on the university’s progress and delivered the presidential address alongside other dignitaries, including Controller of Examinations Kota Sai Krishna and Registrar R.R. Biradar. The ceremony commenced with an academic procession, followed by musical performances of “Vande Mataram” and “Nada Geethe.”
A total of 756 students from over 25 departments were awarded degrees, including 18 PhDs and one MPhil. Out of the 628 students who applied for the convocation, 487 attended in person while 141 received their degrees in absentia. Twenty-seven top-performing students were honored with gold medals. Notably, Siva Sahithi Somisetty, who excelled in B.Tech (Electronics and Communication Engineering), received both a gold medal and the prestigious Prof. A.M. Pathan Gold Medal for achieving the highest scores across all departments.
The event showcased the university’s commitment to producing skilled graduates equipped to navigate the complexities of the digital age while upholding the values essential for societal progress. As graduates step into their futures, Justice Maheshwari’s words resonate as a call to uphold integrity, responsibility, and a quest for knowledge.
