Empowering Futures: Manipur Government Launches PM-NAPS Awareness in Imphal
The Manipur government launched an awareness campaign for the Pradhan Mantri-National Apprenticeship Entrepreneurship Promotion Scheme (PM-NAPS) in Imphal on Thursday. Anurag Bajpai, the Additional Chief Secretary for Textiles, Commerce, Industry, and Transport, attended the event as the chief guest. He highlighted the significance of this initiative, which falls under the Skill India Mission, as a pivotal move to align education, training, and industry.
In Manipur, approximately 95–96% of industries are classified as micro or small-scale. The government aims to enhance these units by transforming them into small and medium enterprises through the promotion of local industries and utilization of local resources, thereby increasing their presence in broader markets.
Bajpai referred to the PM-NAPS as a key flagship program of the Government of India, stressing that its success hinges on creating awareness among eligible youth and motivating businesses across Manipur to engage. He pointed out that, under the Apprenticeship Act, establishments with over 30 employees are required to hire apprentices, while those with 4 to 29 employees have the option to do so voluntarily. He urged all stakeholders to help eligible candidates and establishments recognize the value of apprenticeship.
Apprentices can earn between Rs 6,000 and Rs 12,000 monthly, depending on their qualifications. The Directorate of Craftsmen Training, a part of the Skill, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department of Manipur, organized the event. Notable attendees included N. Bandana Devi, IAS Secretary of the SLEE Department, and Yaiphaba Longjam, MCS, Joint Director of Craftsmen Training, who both participated as distinguished guests.
The campaign saw enthusiastic involvement from various government officials and students, all contributing to the promotion of apprenticeship opportunities in the region.
