Pakistan’s Nuclear Arms Testing: Trump’s Bold Claim Sparks Global Tensions
President Donald Trump has recently sparked global concern by alleging that Pakistan is actively conducting nuclear tests. In a statement justifying this claim, he suggested that if leading nuclear powers are testing, the United States might soon follow suit. During an interview on Sunday, Trump noted that Pakistan is among the countries currently engaged in nuclear weapons testing.
In response to recent inquiries about Russia’s nuclear tests, Trump remarked that both Russia and China are involved in nuclear testing without addressing the issue publicly. He added, “We are in an open society… Just because they are testing, we are going to do nuclear testing now. North Korea is testing, and so is Pakistan.”
Trump asserted that the United States possesses the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons in the world, stating the capability to destroy the planet 150 times over. He also mentioned his discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding nuclear disarmament.
Simultaneously, U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry clarified that the nuclear tests Trump referred to will involve no detonations but will purely focus on system testing.
Moreover, President Putin formally signed an agreement to terminate the Plutonium Disposal Agreement with the United States. This agreement had previously been established to limit the production of materials suitable for nuclear weapons.
Trump’s comments on Pakistan’s nuclear testing have raised significant alarm. It’s widely acknowledged that India and Pakistan currently have nearly equal numbers of nuclear weapons. Consequently, Trump’s claims are likely to provoke fresh concerns regarding national security in India.
