The accumulation of debris can be largely attributed to ongoing construction activities related to the Chennai Metro Rail. Srinivasan notes that not only are the original piles of debris still present, but additional waste from other locations is being added to these mounds, making matters worse.

A TNRDC source insists that where possible, work on the service lanes has been completed. “Bituminous work has been carried out, ensuring a smoother drive for motorists,” the source stated.
